DZG strengthen networking: National Biobank Symposium in Berlin

Conference President PD Dr. Karoline Gaede opens the Symposium

The German biobanking community met on September 23-24 for the 12th National Biobanking Symposium. Conference president PD Dr. Karoline Gaede, ARCN and DZL scientist from the Research Center Borstel, welcomed about 200 participants in Berlin.

The motto of this year’s symposium, organized by the TMF, was “Networking biobanks: Moving Forward Together”. With this in mind, the focus was on “Biobanks in Networks” and in particular on the German Centers for Health Research (DZG) and the German Biobank Alliance. Their development has significantly advanced medical research in recent years. Conference President Karoline Gaede emphasized that “networking biobanks have become indispensable pillars for the development of new therapies and drugs”. On behalf of the DZL’s Biobanking & Data Management platform, Dr. Raphael Majeed reported on the progress and prospects of biomaterial collection in lung research.

The symposium also covered topics such as emergency and quality management as well as the perspectives arising from the new European and German legislation on the use of medical data.
