The pathogenesis of pulmonary hypertension is based on a complex mechanism which leads to wall thickening of blood vessels in the lung and increase of blood pressure in the pulmonary circulation. Final consequence might by right ventricular heart failure. Today, we are able to treat the symptoms of pulmonary hypertension. A future direction of research in the DZL is the question, whether it is possible to reverse thickening of blood vessel walls.
