Highly Cited Researchers 2024

ARCN researchers Martin Reck (Großhansdorf) and Stefan Schreiber (Kiel) belong once again to the most highly cited scientists worldwide in the field of clinical medicine. This is the result of an evaluation by the media analysis company Clarivate, which operates and analyses publication databases.

In the field of clinical medicine, 443 people are among the most highly cited. Reck has been on the lists of the world’s most cited scientists since 2019, and Schreiber since 2014.

In total, this year’s list includes 6,636 people who are highly cited by their peers. Some of them are active in more than one of the 20 humanities and sciences fields analysed. A high citation rate is generally regarded as evidence of the high relevance of an article or researcher to the field.

Researchers working at German institutions ranked fourth in the country comparison, after the United States, China and the United Kingdom.

Papers published between 2013 and 2023 were included in this year’s analysis. For the ranking, Clarivate took into account the one per cent of researchers with the most citations from each of the 20 fields. In addition to this quantitative assessment, qualitative standards were also applied, such as excluding authors with an excessively high self-citation rate or those who had to retract publications in the past due to scientific misconduct. Clarivate also excluded articles with more than 30 co-authors.
