In the framework of ARCN four research insitutions of the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein join forces in order to combat lung diseases:

The contribution of Research Center Borstel - Leibniz Lung Center is focused on basic research in the areas of asthma & allergy, COPD and lung cancer. This is supplemented by studies on animal models. Borstel is also headquarter of the DZL biobank BioMaterialBank Nord.

The University of Lübeck contributes to the ARCN with its expertise in the imaging field. Researchers from Lübeck work on novel imaging technologies for application in the airways with respect to the areas of asthma & allergy and COPD.

The University closely collaborates with the Lübeck Campus of the University Clinic Schleswig-Holstein (Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein, UKSH) in order to establish the cooperative Children's Asthma Registry. Researchers from Lübeck also participate in a clinical study of the DZL on treatment of cystic fibrosis.

The University of Kiel completes the spectrum of ARCN research with animal models of innate immunity. Insight from this field is especially of importance in the areas of COPD and asthma.

The Kiel Campus of the University Clinic Schleswig-Holstein is specialised on genetics and epigenetics in the fields of non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

LungenClinic Grosshansdorf is a North German clinic specialised on airway diseases that provides health care for more than 12.000 patients per year. In the framework of DZL the LungenClinic is involved in clinical studies on asthma & allergy, COPD and lung cancer. Together with the Research Center Borstel, the LungenClinic established the Registry of Adult Asthmatics (ERA) of the DZL. The coordination office of ARCN is located in Grosshansdorf.
