Leibniz Lab “Pandemic Preparedness” – Borstel is on board
The Leibniz Association is launching the new “Leibniz Labs” funding line – and ARCN member Research Center Borstel – Leibniz Lung Center has been awarded the contract with 40 partner institutions.
In the new “Leibniz Labs” format, the Leibniz Association fosters the bundling of inter- and transdisciplinary expertise in order to answer socially highly relevant questions. One of the three approved projects is the Leibniz Lab “Pandemic Preparedness: One Health, One Future”, a network of 41 Leibniz Institutes. This new instrument of the Leibniz Association aims to improve preparation for future pandemics. The focus lies on respiratory pathogens (viruses, bacteria and fungi) that spread via the airways. The aim is to reduce vulnerability in the population and increase resilience. Prof. Gülşah Gabriel from the Leibniz Institute of Virology (LIV) in Hamburg is the spokesperson for the Leibniz Lab. Prof. Susanne Krauss-Etschmann from ARCN member FZB is member of the steering committee. The project will receive funding of three million euros.
