40 researchers from the DZL sites ARCN, BREATH, CPC-M, TLRC and UGMLC met in Munich. 15 participated via video call. The meeting of the DZL asthma registry ALLIANCE (All Age Asthma Cohort) and the basic researchers served to exchange information and to improve the cooperation between both groups. The goal is to analyze collected data and biomaterials from the 1,500 subjects and patients with meaningful questions. In addition, suitable animal models will be developed and the results analyzed in ALLIANCE. The Disease Area has already come a long way and has an impressive track record of high-impact publications. For example, a previously unknown risk gene on chromosome 17 was recently found and investigated in detail. Progress on this and other projects was discussed in Munich. Last but not least, the strategic orientation of the DZL Disease Area and the question of how to adapt the research program in order to better translate the results obtained into clinical application were also part of the program: Improving therapy and diagnostics and developing preventive approaches remain the goal of research in the Disease Area Asthma and Allergies.
